Emperor will return to Germany in 2027 for an exclusive club show, headlining Dark Easter Metal Meeting. For the Norwegian black metallers, this will be the first performance in a German club since 1999, while the occasion will also see them return to Munich, a city they last visited in 1997.

Back to Munich
Much has unfolded for Emperor since they last set foot in Germany. The years that have passed have only added weight to their return, making the upcoming occasion a special one for both the fans who will be there and the organisers who have worked to make it happen.
The team behind the festival expressed that sentiment in the following words:
“We are beyond thrilled to announce that this iconic, genre-defining band will head to Munich to headline the Dark Easter Metal Meeting 2027. For years, it has been our passionate dream to bring Emperor to our stage. Now, that long-standing wish finally becomes reality.
As one of the most influential forces in extreme music history, their rare live appearances are legendary, defined by unmatched intensity, majestic atmosphere, and symphonic black metal mastery. Experiencing a band of this magnitude in an intimate venue setting is a truly rare, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity”.
Tickets for this exclusive Munich show will go on sale on 7 September 2026, with further names for Dark Easter Metal Meeting 2027 set to be announced in the coming days.
Beyond the Norwegian Underground
Formed in 1991 in Notodden, Norway, Emperor quickly became one of the names synonymous with the Norwegian black metal movement of the 1990s. The early years brought the demo “Wrath of the Tyrant”, the self-titled EP and the split with Enslaved.
In 1994, Emperor released “In the Nightside Eclipse”, followed in 1997 by “Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk”. In 1999, “IX Equilibrium” arrived, while 2001 brought “Prometheus – The Discipline of Fire and Demise”, completing the original run of full-length albums.
Live performances have continued to play an important role in the activity of Emperor, with the band returning to the stage on several occasions.
