Two Days, Multiple Reasons to Go to Wels
This year, Celebrare Noctem Fest brings together a broad selection of black metal acts from across the international underground.
The bill presents Arjen, from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, with three full-length albums issued so far, the most recent being “Lice čovjeka koji je rekao ne”, released in 2022. Each album is built around a chaos-centred ideology.
The name Arjen first appeared in Sarajevo’s black metal scene in 2012, and now it will be heard in Wels as well.
The artists behind Black Curse, active in Denver, Colorado since 2015, shape their death/black metal around occultism, with a catalogue that has continued to grow over the years. The most recent creation of theirs is “Burning in Celestial Poison” [2024].
The Icelanders behind Lokabrenna, operating since 2025 in Kópavogur and Reykjavík, step into the festival with their black metal and the demo “Acephalic Apocrypha” [2026].
From London, the United Kingdom, Necromaniac describe their sound as “morbid metal” since 2011 and are set to blow listeners’ brains out with “Sciomancy, Malediction & Rites Abominable” [2025].
California’s Volahn, active since 2003, draw on Mesoamerican folklore and Mexican history within their black metal, with three full-length albums behind them, the latest being “Popol Vuh” [2025].
Their Californian counterparts Zulxaxeku, active since 2018, strengthen the Black Twilight Circle connection, having released their first full-length, “The Beast of Genocide”, in 2026, following the demo of the same name.
The name Aran points towards Lunar Aurora, the German black metal act formed in 1994 in Rosenheim, Bavaria. Their discography comprises nine albums, issued between 1996 and 2012.
Also from California, Blue Hummingbird on the Left channel Mesoamerican folklore, war and the Aztec deity Huitzilopochtli through their black metal. Active in the underground since 2010, they are also part of the Black Twilight Circle and have released one full-length, “Atl Tlachinolli” [2019].
Formed in 2016, Germany’s Hadopelagyal move between black and death metal, with two full-length albums, “Nereidean Seismic End” [2022] and “Haematophoryktos” [2025], followed by this year’s EP, “Zalmathic Necroichorion”.
Austria’s Hagzissa, based around Linz and Vienna since 2016, explore primitive magic, witchcraft, folklore and horror through black metal, with “They Ride Along” [2019] remaining their only full-length so far.
Toronto’s Nächtlich, part of the scene since 2016, continue the raw black metal tradition while exploring paganism and Satanism. Their catalogue currently contains three full-length albums, including “Exaltation of Evil”, released in 2024.
From Sarajevo, Sulphuric Night, active since 2013, maintain their connection to the Black Plague Circle, with occultism, death worship, and nihilism at the heart of their black metal and “Forever Cursed” [2019] as their sole full-length.
Australia’s Temple Nightside, formed in 2010, operate in the black/death metal territory, with five full-length albums to their name. Their latest, “Cenotaph Severance” [2026], continues their focus on necromancy, death and mysticism.
Triumphal Vengeance, originally from Chile and later based in Lower Austria, Austria, round off the selection with a catalogue that includes the EP “Atavistic Darkness” [2022], “Crossing the Rubicon” [2024] and their first full-length, “Spears of Conquest” [2025].
