Schirenc Plays PUNGENT STENCH in Romania. Does that ring any bells? Well, it should. More than that, 23 October 2026 marks the final appearance in this country of this project.
What awaits our eardrums? Two classic records take centre stage: “Been Caught Buttering” [1991] and “For God Your Soul… For Me Your Flesh” [1990].
But before we see the Austrian founding member, vocalist and guitarist Martin Schirenc take the stage, we will also get healthy portions of death metal, grindcore and crust, served up by the Romanian acts Rotheads and Treasondom. Quantic in Bucharest awaits.

Schirenc Plays Pungent Stench: A Final Bow in Romania
Pungent Stench never made a habit of keeping things clean. Rising from Vienna’s underground in the late 1980s, they paired death metal’s uglier impulses with a groove-heavy attack and a wicked sense of humour.
They left a trail of blood across the scene with releases such as “For God Your Soul… for Me Your Flesh” [1990], “Been Caught Buttering” [1991] and “Masters of Moral – Servants of Sin” [2001].
Following several discussions among the members, Schirenc decided to form The Church of Pungent Stench, keeping the classic material alive on stage and bringing it to the ears of old and new listeners alike. However, for legal reasons, the project eventually became known as “Schirenc Plays Pungent Stench”.
Rotheads and Treasondom: No Respite from the Underground
The members of Rotheads from Bucharest have been digging through the old-school death metal trenches since 2014, with two full-length albums to their name: “Sewer Fiends” [2018] and “Slither in Slime” [2022]. Their first EP, “Unfazed by Death” [2016], marked the beginning of a decade spent in the company of the genre’s more putrid sounds. The group also joined forces with Putred for a tribute to Canadian death metal act Slaughter. The split is entitled “Tales of the Macabre” and was released this year.
Based in Târgu Mureș, Treasondom have been active since 2017, directing their death metal and grindcore towards social criticism themes. Following the EP “Nihilistic Incubator” [2018] and singles such as “Revolution Eats Its Children” [2024] and “The Growing Distance” [2025], they released their debut full-length, “The Flesh Consumes the Mind” [2025].
Quantic: The Venue at the Heart of It All
Quantic gets to be part of the final Romanian appearance of Schirenc Plays Pungent Stench, with the founder eager to be part of its story. Alongside “Been Caught Buttering” and “For God Your Soul… For Me Your Flesh”, the set will feature a selection of other classic tracks.
Rotheads and Treasondom will also take the stage, ready to spill their own share of blood across the venue’s floor. Will we make it out alive after this one? Who knows? What we do know is that this is not an occasion to miss.
