Every autumn, Bucharest gets louder than traffic, darker than John Wayne Gacy’s basement, and far sweatier than any gym membership.
That’s right: Old Grave Festival 12 is coming, October 10–11 at Quantic Pub, and it doesn’t care if you’re ready; it only cares if you can survive it!
Every year, Quantic Pub in Bucharest becomes a black hole of riffs, leather, and questionable decisions. You don’t attend Old Grave Festival; you endure it.
Of corpse, survival at Old Grave isn’t about staying alive. It’s about staying upright, finding your boots at the end of the night, and not accidentally trading your soul for another round of shots. But since we’re nice, here’s your unofficial crash course. Consider yourself warned… or invited:
First reminder: time doesn’t exist here. Forget your schedule. Forget daylight. The only clock that matters is the blastbeat, and when the stench of blood, guts, and death fuckin’ metal will hit your nose, you’ll know exactly what hour it is: ’tis meeting God Itself o’clock also known as AUTOPSY.
Second (un)kind reminder: Alcohol is not a substitute for water. Yes, beers and shots flow like water. Yes, you’ll swear the alcohol is water. It’s not. This is especially true if someone hands you a shot of Romanian brandy (I am talking of țuica and palinca – for the tough ones). It’s our national pride, our national curse, and possibly your personal end. Take it carefully. It can be your poison, your death, but it might also be the reason you discover God halfway through a Slough Feg solo.
Third reminder: Mental sanity..ehm..not really a choice. When Deströyer 666 hit the stage, you’ll either move with the crowd or be moved by the crowd. Don’t fight it. Embrace it. Bruises heal, but missing the madness you’ll never wash off.
Fourth one: Sleep is an urban legend. We heard about it, read about it, never saw it. At Old Grave Fest, rest comes in 15-minute (if you are lucky) bursts: on a bench, under a tree, or leaning on a stranger’s leather jacket. Dreams are optional. Ear-ringing is guaranteed…and so are the headaches.
The be(a)sts don’t come all at once. Old Grave splits them by days, like different levels in a survival horror game. Here’s what you’re really walking into (please, do step in! ):
Thursday — Cold Grave Party (Warm-up)
In the words of the poet, doors creak open at 18:30, and already the shadows crawl. ApofeniA (19:35–20:15) will set the tone, expect some tunes writhing under your skin. The Crucifier (20:35–21:20) old-school thrash with experimental edges sharp enough to slice your pint. Then Venefixion (21:40–22:30) already a landmark for spectacular shows! Get ready for occult-tinged death metal, wrapped in that French mysticism. Morbid to the core, it’s gonna roll in like a fog where no light escapes. And at midnight’s doorstep, Vultures Vengeance (23:00–00:00) expect to be hypnotised by a unique Italian blend of epic and traditional heavy metal!
Friday — The First Wound
Day one of Old Grave Fest 12 opens the gates at 16:00 and immediately bleeds you dry. You thought you had energy? Think again.
Atonement (Sweden) (16:30–17:10), expect some fast and evil riffs. Armagh (PL) (17:30–18:10) known for a blackened atmosphere that likes its tunes heavy and crushing. Then Chaotian (DK) (18:30–19:10) is gonna blast everything rotten with their putrescent death aesthetic (yummy!).
As the night sharpens, TYTAN (19:30–20:15) NWOBHM nostalgia — ’80s madness survivors still riding strong. Imperator (PL) (20:35–21:25) Polish death brutality veterans. Expectations are to be dragged back into the crypt. Slough Feg (21:45–22:55) riffy, literate heavy metal in tunes that sneak up on you. And to finish the cut, Deströyer 666 (23:25–00:05) expect speed, venom, and total stage chaos, and probably some scars that you’re going to brag about later.
Saturday — The Deep Cut
Doors open 16:00, but by now you’ve stopped counting time.
Vengeance (16:30–17:10) is the spark, sharpening the blade. Sacrofuck (PL) (17:30–18:10) putrid Polish death gore with a grind attitude, brutal and punk enough to make you doubt your life choices. Kev Riddles’ Baphomet (18:30–19:10) announced to be a live revisit of Angel Witch classics led by Kevin “Skids” Riddles, whose passing in July casts the set in heavy legacy value.
Hellish Crossfire (19:30–20:15) German speed/thrash in rabid bursts, Portrait (20:55–21:25), that one of the kind Swedish heavy metal treat that announces to keep things ritualistic! Onslaught (21:55–22:55), the thrash metal veterans: classic and uncompromising, the kind that turns heads around (orthopedically speaking), and finally, the death metal gods themselves. First time show ever in Romania, the legendary Autopsy (23:25–00:05) – the ultimate exhumation of this festival: death metal, gore-drenched, cult legend! Best of luck, folks!
Afterparties — Because never stop the madness!
Official afterparties Thursday & Friday at Quantic, Saturday at Private Hell Club. Call them afterparties if you want, but really, they’re just Old Grave mutating into its next form. Bring your strength. Bring excuses. Neither will save you.

P.S. There might be an afterparty mirage. Someone will whisper about an afterparty. It may be in a basement. It may be in a park. It may simply be five strangers sharing a plastic bag of beer on the curb in front of the Old Town at 5 a.m. Don’t ask where it is; if you’re meant to find it, the party will find you… Hopefully, before the cops.
By Sunday morning, you’ll be a different creature. Not resurrected, come on, the best one could do is looking half-dead, but definitely transformed, clinically speaking… Your wrinkle will tell stories. Your voice will sound like gravel if you still have it. And your liver will probably file for divorce. But you’ll also know the secret truth: Old Grave isn’t just a festival. It’s a dare. And you survived, you maniac!
