A confrontation. With the self. With silence. With nothingness.

Something stirs again beneath Norway’s frozen firmament. From the same bleak well that nourished their previous work, Malum now prepare the arrival of a new full-length, “From the Voids”, scheduled for release on 27 March 2026 through Dark Essence Records.

Before the full record emerges, the Norwegian black metal collective brought to our ears its second preview: the track “Hollow”, presented as a further glimpse into the album’s severe temperament, according to Dark Essence Records. Where earlier material hinted at the direction of the record, this new piece presses deeper into the tension that defines the forthcoming release, as mentioned by the label.

Beneath the Quiet Ruin

Within “Hollow”, Malum wanted to examinate a state of inner erosion shaped by modern dislocation and fragile human impulses. The composition broadens the group’s musical reach with a darker, groove-oriented pulse while retaining the bleak melodic spine that defines their sound. The band describes the piece as an examination of addiction, silent yearning, and the uneasy human urge to feel something at any cost.

“«Hollow» is Malum’s descent into inner emptiness and modern disorientation. The song examines fragile human urges, addiction, and the silent longing to feel something, even if that feeling is death.

Musically darker and more groove-driven, it expands the band’s sound while remaining rooted in bleak melodic intensity.

Lyrically, it confronts wasted time, shame, and exposing existence as brief, hollow, and frighteningly disposable.”

As stated by the band, the forthcoming record consists of six compositions and continues Malum’s path without abandoning the elements that shaped their identity. Their music remains anchored in the austere traditions of the Norwegian second wave, yet tempered by a modern philosophical bleakness that examines existence without consolation.

Rather than retreat further inward, “From the Voids” expands that gaze outward, refining the group’s language into something colder and more focused, according to the label. The visual counterpart to this vision once again comes from Den Unge Herr Holm, whose artwork accompanies the release, as reported by Malum.

According to Encyclopaedia Metallum, the album’s track titles are:

“Stare Into Darkness” [duration not yet disclosed];

“Ignorance Made Bliss” [duration not yet disclosed];

“In Gloom II” [07:07];

“Deranged and Depraved” [duration not yet disclosed];

“Hollow” [05:27];

“From the Voids” [duration not yet disclosed, follow us for more updates!].

A Presence in the Norwegian Underground

Malum came in the Norwegian underground as a newly forged entity devoted to raw, atmospheric, and black metal with melodic elements. Their sound draws strength from the grim traditions that shaped the genre’s formative years while weaving in contemporary existential thought and nihilistic reflection.

The result is music that is oppressive in tone, yet shaped by a certain harsh release. In Malum’s vision, black metal remains not simply an aesthetic but a confrontation with silence, self, and the vast emptiness that lingers beyond both.
