Spears of Wallachia Festival will return to Quantic on 13 November 2026. Organised by Cavalleria Events, the festival seeks to continue the path opened by its inaugural edition, bringing together distinctive underground acts and artists seldom seen in Romania from across the more shadowed territories of extreme metal.

This year, Bucharest will welcome Bütcher [black/speed metal, Belgium], Akral Necrosis [black metal, Romania], Acid Death [technical death metal/progressive metal, Greece] and Blynd [melodic death/thrash metal, Cyprus].

According to the organisers, other names will follow in the weeks ahead.

The First Blades Drawn

Active since 2002, the members of Bütcher combine classic speed metal, savage thrash metal, occult heavy metal and old-school black metal influences into a violent and chaotic formula inspired by the underground scenes of the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s.

The Belgians draw inspiration from the traditions of German and American speed and thrash metal while incorporating elements associated with hard rock, NWOBHM, and the black/thrash movements that emerged across South America, Australia and Scandinavia.

Authenticity remains the central focus. They employ vintage equipment and analogue recording methods in pursuit of the atmosphere and energy associated with metal’s formative decades.

Their discography includes the debut album “Bestial Fükkin’ Warmachine” [2017], followed by “666 Goats Carry My Chariot” [2020] and the most recent full-length, “On Fowl of Tyrant Wing” [2024], released through Osmose Productions and Babylon Doom Cult Records.

They are more than ready to keep the steel flaming hot.

If we are speaking of keeping the steel red-hot, attention likewise turns to Akral Necrosis, one of the longest-running and most aggressive black metal acts in Romania.

Akral Necrosis appeared in 2006 as a reaction against the wave of melodic and atmospheric black metal of the time. From then until the present day, the members of the band have built their own identity through a violent blend of black metal with death metal incursions, thrash elements, dissonant passages and progressive structures.

Across two decades of activity, they have released albums such as “Outcast Litanies” [2011], “Pandemic Dominion” [2012], “Underlight” [2016] and “The Greater Absence” [2020].

The first live album of the band was released in 2024, followed by a cover of Absu in 2025. Now, they are recording their fourth studio album and return to the stage prepared to present new material for the first time.

Some surprises are also expected from the members of the band Acid Death. Veterans of the Greek metal scene [1989], they combine classic death metal with progressive influences, thrash elements and atmospheric passages, maintaining a balance between aggression and complex composition.

Following their early releases in the 1990s, the members of the group consolidated their reputation through albums such as “Random’s Manifest” [2000], “Eidolon” [2012], “Hall of Mirrors” [2015] and “Primal Energies” [2019], each introducing new directions and sonic developments. Their most recent material, “Evolution” [2025], continues this trajectory through a modern sound that remains firmly rooted in the foundations of death metal.

And because one can never say there is no more room for death metal, the members of the band Blynd have decided to join the line-up. Active since 2003, the Cypriot artists combine thrash, death and progressive influences, built on aggressive riffs, intense drumming and dynamic vocals.

They made their debut with the album “The Enemy” [2011], released through Fishbone Records, followed by “Punishment Unfolds” [2012], promoted through a European tour alongside Cradle of Filth, God Seed and Rotting Christ. In 2015, they released “Liber Sum”, an album inspired by the legends and history of Cyprus. Their latest material, “Unbeliever” [2024], received positive reviews.

Until we get the chance to catch them all live, let’s give the releases already out there a spin and keep an eye on the discussions surrounding the event.
