Euphrosyne, the trailblazing post-black metal band from Greece, has officially joined forces with Black Lion Records and is gearing up to release their highly anticipated debut album, Morus, on March 21st, 2025.

About the debut album

Morus is an experiential concept album, deeply inspired by the true story of Alex Despotidis’s loss of his mother to cancer in 2017. Thus, the narrative begins with the harrowing realization of death and the overwhelming emotions that accompany it, continuing through the existential questions of “what happens after everything ends” and the vivid depiction of pain and suffering. Furthermore, the journey progresses towards accepting the image of a loved one losing their battle, culminating in the final journey to the Asphodel Meadows—the section of the ancient Greek underworld where most souls are believed to reside after death.

The music was composed by Alex Despotidis, with lyrics by Efi Eva, mixing and mastering handled by Psychon (Septicflesh), and artwork and band photoshoots created by Dimitris Tzortzis.

Indeed, Morus is not just an album. Undoubtfully, it’s a heartfelt ode to loss, reflection, and the catharsis found within music.

About the band

Euphrosyne formed in 2021, when Efi Eva (vocals) and Alex Despotidis (guitar) united under a shared vision of creating dark and adventurously melodic music that pushes the boundaries of post-black metal. In their first year, the band released the singles Thorns Above The Skies and Rattus, which introduced their unique blend of black and melodic metal with orchestral arrangements. Of course, along with vocals that shift from powerful growls to melodic and powerful lines, all steeped in themes of depression and isolation.

Indeed, after receiving critical acclaim for their initial singles, Euphrosyne solidified their lineup in 2022 with George Gazis (bass) and Stelios Pepinidis (drums), and recorded their debut EP Keres. The EP marked the band’s first artistic statement, showcasing compositions that range from the fierce narrative of bands like Deafheaven and Ghostbath to the devastating sound of Behemoth, Gojira, and Gorgoroth.

More to the point, with a series of live performances alongside acts such as Rotting Christ, Sylvaine, Ultha, and Sakis Tolis, Euphrosyne is positioning themselves as a focused and inspired force in the European post-black metal scene. Also, offering a strong visual identity and a sound that continues to challenge the genre’s boundaries.
