Black metal band Yoth Iria, hailing from mighty Greece, released their second full-length album on November 8th. Titled Blazing Inferno, the eight track album came out via Edged Circle Productions.
About the album
Sparkling undeniable intensity, this second album is a fusion of emotions and experiences, coming out from the most remote parts of Jim Mutilator‘s dark mind. Together with Nikos Perlepe, an exceptional musician who played with Paul Di’Anno for years, Jim created a majestic Yoth Iria album, with a different approach than the previous one.
Thus, compared with As the Flame Withers, it is more direct, more melodic and more utopian. Indeed, without any fillers. It lacks the psychedelic elements of the debut full-length, but it introduces a few folk and ethnic ones instead. Also, there is a touch of gothic rock style which reminds of Fields of the Nephilim.
Themes and atmosphere
Lyrically, Blazing Inferno is mostly about magic and freedom. It pictures demons as true friends of humanity, bringing knowledge and the original light coming from Lucifer himself. However, there is a track which pays homage to some iconic names. Indeed, Rites of Blood and Ice is dedicated to figures like Dead, Euronymous and others from back then… Those who sparked an incredible revolution.
Furthermore, atmosphere plays a crucial part in making Blazing Inferno as intriguing as it is and nothing short of amazing. Moreover, it proves to be a major ingredient in many songs. For instance, Rites Of Blood And Ice contains an ominous soundscape, concocted by a bass intro and completed with a sweeping vocal pattern. By all means and purposes, it creates a genuine sense of terror. Elsewhere, Our Father Rode Again His Ride is another example of a song which focuses on creating ambiance, feeling cold and foreboding.
To cut a long tale short, this album kick a punch! Yoth Iria compiles the very best elements of black metal and atmosphere with just a pinch of ethnic spicing things up.
The Greek black metal act will perform in Bucharest next year, at Quantic, on January 18th, an event organized by Rusidava Management and Psychosounds Music ( tickets here)
