Rockstadt Extreme Fest 2023 added five bands to the bill

Read more about the latest additions to Rockstadt Extreme Fest 2023, the biggest metal festival in Romania....

Rockstadt Extreme Fest is keeping our excitement at high levels, this time announcing not one, two or three, but five new additions to the festival’s line-up!

It is worth mentioning that there are less than two weeks left until the ticket prices will go up, as the current price tier will end on the 3rd of October 2022. So be sure to secure your ticket now!

Untill then, here are the 5 new additions: Trivium, Alestorm, Obituary, Gaerea and I am Morbid.

The first headlining show announced is Trivium. It’s been 10 years since they’ve last played in this part of the world, their latest appearance being at Rock the City all the way back in 2013.

Even if the world came to a full stop, nothing quenched their creative drive. Trivium have been keeping quite busy: their latest album In The Court Of The Dragon was released in October 2021, while being written and recorded during isolation.

They are currently playing the special guests spot on the American leg of the Iron Maiden Legacy of the Beast World Tour 2022, and will set on another North American tour this fall alongside bands such as Between the Buried and Me, Whitechapel and Khemmis.

We are excited to see their explosive mélange of metalcore, heavy metal, death, progressive and alternative.

Pirate metal drinking crew Alestorm are returning on the grounds of Transylvania for a night of beer drinking and fun. After their rain-defying show back in 2017, we are fully prepared for their infectious pirate metal sound and unpretentious attitude.

They’ve released their latest album Seventh Rum of a Seventh Rum (we see what you did there, Alestorm) via Napalm Records in June 2022.

Have we also mentioned that they bring a giant inflatable duck on stage? No, this is not a joke.

Festival favourites Obituary are returning for a third time to Rockstadt Eextreme Fest. They are going to close off the festival on Sunday with a special headlining performance on the resurrected third stage.

One of the most successful death metal bands of all time, Obituary formed in Tampa, Florida in 1984. One of their most iconic album, Slowly We Rot, was such a groundbreaking release back in 1989 that it has influenced a slew of death metal bands, such as Morbid Angel, Deicide, Malevolent Creation or even now-canon Cannibal Corpse.

In August of this year, Obituary released live albums for two of their landmark albums, the above mentioned Slowly We Rot and Cause of Death. They are currently touring Latin America in their Complete Control tour, while later this fall they will be touring North America with Amon Amarth’s The Great Heathen tour, alongside Carcass and Cattle Decapitation.

I Am Morbid

I Am Morbid is the Morbid Angel split-off band that was formed by former Morbid Angel mastermind and singer David Vincent. Since March of this year, it has been reported that Pete “Commando” Sandoval also joined this project, from behind the drums. The two ex-band members haven’t played together in 12 years and have reunited this year for their Morbidfest shows. The lineup is completed by Bill Hudson and Kelly McLauchlin on guitars.

Taking their name from, you guessed it, a well-loved Morbid Angel song, I Am Morbid will play their very first show in Romania. To mark this occasion, they will perform a special anniversary show: they will play the legendary album Covenant from 1993 in its entirety.

Last but certainly not least, black metal revelation Gaerea is another band that will play for the first time in the lands of Transylvania at Rockstadt Extreme Fest 2023.

Gaerea hails from Porto, Portugal and they describe their artistic approach as “challenging the archetype of black metal, coloring outside of the genre’s lines with melancholy texture and deep emotion”.

Today, on the 23rd of September 2022, Gaerea released their third full-length album entitled Mirage via Season of Mist. Of this new release, the band has stated that “This is the most excruciating and agonising offering we have ever crafted as human beings, letting our souls bleed throughout this record. To all of you who are eager to dive deep into the depths of our Numb world, we salute you, and may you be welcomed into the Walls of Mirage.”
