Nordic Night with Wardruna, Lindy-Fay Hella & Dei Farne and Kalandra at Arenele Romane in Bucharest

"Lend me a feather and I will turn it into white wings"

The legendary Wardruna will finally play live in Bucharest next Friday, on the 8th of July, at Arenele Romane. This concert is part of their Nordic Night Summer Open Air Tour that promotes Wardruna’s fifth album, Kvitravn. The opening acts will be Lindy-Fay Hella & Dei Farne and Kalandra.

Lindy-Fay Hella, Wardruna vocalist, alongside the Dei Farne musicians Roy Ole Førland and Ingolf Hella Torgersen create beautiful soundscapes that encourages us to seek the magic in our surroundings. They have released their latest album Hildring via ByNorse Music in November of 2021. ‘Hildring’ is the Norwegian word for mirage. You can find the album on different platforms here Lindy-Fay Hella & Dei Farne – Hildring

Kalandra is a Norwegian/Swedish collective formed by Jogeir, Katrine, Florian and Oskar. They weave ethereal melodies into raw and eerie musical landscapes. After their debut in 2020 with their The Line album, they have composed the original score for the Kingdom Two Crowns: Norse Lands videogame and are now eager to tour internationally. A truly captivating band, it is well worth coming to Arenele Romane from the beginning to catch their live performance. Until then, you can listen to them on Spotify , TikTok or Bandcamp

I believe the Norse folk masters need no in depth introduction: even if they gained international recognition after Einar Selvik’s brilliant compositions that were featured on the soundtrack for the hit series Vikings, Wardruna have woven their Norse stories into the hearts of many long before, since the early 2000’s. Their first album was released in 2009, namely the first installment of the Runaljod series entitled gap var Ginnunga. For context, the album that contains some of the creations made for the Vikings series, Skald, was going to be released in 2018.

Wardruna are dedicated to creating modern renditions of ancient Norse and Nordic traditions. They use a variety of traditional and historic instruments, as well as incorporating natural sounds in their music, such as the sound of trees, stones, bones, birds and so on, enhancing thus the atmospherics and creating an almost esoteric natural connection.

As a live band, Wardruna operates in various constellations of personnel but the standard configuration the last years has been:

Einar Selvik – Vocals, Taglharpa, Kravik-lyre, Bukkehorn

Lindy-Fay Hella – Vocals

Arne Sandvoll – Percussion, Backing vocals

Eilif Gundersen – Bukkehorn, Lur, Flute, Backing vocals

HC Dalgaard – Drums, Percussion, Backing vocals

John Stenersen – Mora-harp

Wardruna released their fifth studio album Kvitravn (White-Raven) in January 2021. A year later, as a prelude to the upcoming concerts that the world can finally enjoy this summer, Wardruna presented Kvitravn – First Flight of the White Raven – a live-in-studio recording that was broadcasted online as a type of release show for the album, since at the time live concerts were still not possible. This recording is now available on different digital and physical formats.  Einar commented about this album, saying:
“This was recorded in a time when it was not allowed to perform in front of an audience, which made it very important for me that the recording itself truly captured the energy of a live performance. What you will hear, is what we performed in that moment in that room. No re-recordings or autotune was done in the afterwork. Just like for a regular concert, the set list was carefully put together with a selection of songs from all our albums, including a handful songs from the new album, which we performed for the very first time. On the day of recording, we all stood together in the same room for the first time in over a year. Everyone came focused and well prepared and the energy felt like no time had passed. I hope you will agree!”
