SoundArt Festival is the event dedicated to progressive styles and stoner rock/metal and returns on 8, 9 and 10 March 2019. The event will take place in Quantic Club in Bucharest. Bands confirmed so far: Riverside, Planet of Zeus, Sunnata, Weedpecker, Perihelion, Purple Caravan and Viper Soup Complex. More bands will be announced soon.

Riverside – progressive rock/metal
Riverside was founded in Warsaw in 2001 and has 7releasses, most of which are released under the auspices of the prestigious Inside Out Records label. ”Wasteland”, was released on September 28, 2018. Riverside, often likened to Pink Floyd or Dream Theater, is one of Europe’s best-rated progressive rock bands.
With the release of the first “Out of Myself” (2003), his success in Poland brought Riverside to a contract with the US label Laser’s Edge, as well as a collaboration with painter Travis Smith (Devin Townsend, Anathema). Starting with the band’s second studio album, Voices in My Head, originally released in Poland (Mystic Production), then re-launched internationally under the aegis of InsideOut, Riverside began his career touring the whole world and recording massive sales, and “Rapid Eye Movement” (2007), the third studio album, brought the band a collaboration with Dream Theater for the legendary tour in Europe. In 2016, guitarist Piotr Grudziski died of a heart attack, and the “Eye of the Soundscape” compilation became the last material recorded in the classic Riverside formula. The band’s latest studio album, “Wasteland”, captures the audience with a new wave of powerful emotions and magical guitar accords.
Planet of Zeus – southern/stoner metal
Planet of Zeus can be considered the most famous Greek band in the stoner / southern area. With four active albums and a live release released in 2018, the band set up in 2000 has gone on stage alongside Black Sabbath, Clutch, Ozzy Osbourne, Grand Magus, Truckfighters, Pentagram and appeared on the radio of Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden. On the occasion of SoundArt Festival 2019, Planet of Zeus will play in Bucharest on the second evening of the event.
Sunnata – stoner/sludge metal
Described by the press as a heavy music ritual, Sunnata musical direction combines stoner/sludge with progressive and grunge elements. The band was formed in 2013 and since then they released three albums. The latest studio material was released in 2018 and is titled “Outlands”. Known as a very expressive band in the live environment, Sunnata sang at Tallinn Music Week, Desertfest Berlin, Dome of Rock and shared the scene with Mastodon, Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, The Sword and Kylesa. In 2019, Sunnata will rock the walls of the Quantic Club when they attend the SoundArt Festival 2019.
Weedpecker – stoner/psychedelic metal
Masters of the psychedelic stoner tied with grungy influences, Weedpecker began their journey in 2013 when the Dobry brothers decided to experiment with a sound based on heavy riffs. If the first Weedpecker material enters the classic stoner area, the new album in 2018 shows a band more interested in the psychedelic and progressive area through a jamming approach where each track is unpredictable.
Perihelion – avantgarde/post-black metal
Perihelion was born in 2014 and soon became one of the most original post-metal projects in Hungary. With the roots already formed in the Neokhrome group (2001-2014), Perihelion released two EPs and three full-length albums: “Nap fele nez” (2016, EP), “Perihelion” (2014) Zeng “(2015), ” Hold “(EP 2016) and” Orveny “(2017), each delivering the same chaotic, magical and grandiose atmosphere that characterizes it.
Purple Caravan – stoner/hard rock
Purple Caravan is a young stone/hard rock band with heavy and psychedelic influences from Craiova, founded in 2017. The Purple Caravan Sound is described as a combination of rock ’70, grunge, southern rock, a fuzzy package. The band shared the scene with bands such as Fry Days, Cardinal, The Demon’s Claws or The Noise Figures. The Purple Caravan sound is inspired by the established bands of this genre, such as Sleep, 1000mods, or Kyuss.
Viper Soup Complex – progressive metal
Viper Soup Complex began their activity in 2012 with the aim of developing a progressive sound played in a rebellious or even absurd style as described by the troops. Another aspect that highlights the band is the remarkable voice of Annemarie Spiteri. Viper Soup Complex have gone on stage with SepticFlesh, Thurisaz, [IN MUTE], Until Rain and Enemy of Reality. Towards the end of 2018, the band is preparing to release “Red Fugue”, the debut album.
SOUNDART Festival is a contemporary event that guides the ingenuity of modern experimental music as a ferment of the syncretic process. The three days of the festival will be complemented by concerts hosted by numerous and important bands belonging to the Stoner and Progressive rock spheres of Europe.
