More About Ruyned

Ruyned’s journey starts in the spring of ’23 in Timișoara, where they quickly took the metal scene by assault, having just met in late December of the previous year. “Hungry” is the best way to describe these newcomers, as they were instantly driven to create their own music.

Bogdan Mateescu and Andrei Crișan met at a metal show in a local club. Finding a ton of similarities in their musical tastes (Kreator, Sodom, Butcher, Toxic Holocaust), they decided it was time to start their own band. Soon after, they were joined by Tiberiu Olescher and Mihai Marinescu, forming what is now known as Ruyned.

The Purpose? “Pure Fukking Metal”

Ruyned plays blackened-thrash-speed metal in a way that also harkens back to the old-school South American metal aggression. Their style? Fast songs, crazy riffs, and an energy that sends you headfirst into the mosh pit—something that is very common during their shows.

The Early Days and “Morbid Pleasures”

On September 22, 2023, Ruyned released their first demo, “Morbid Pleasures“. This self-produced CD contains three songs and an intro. The artwork, created by Swedish artist Jan Pysander Whitney, reflects their lyrics, which focus on themes of psychology, mental illness, and death.

Ruyned has already performed at several festivals, including Metal Bunker in Craiova (September 2023) and Death Metal Madness 3 in Sibiu (October 2023). They have also played alongside several local bands, gaining recognition across Romania’s metal scene.

2024: A Breakthrough Year

In early 2024, Ruyned stepped onto Romania’s main metal scene, performing at Bucharest’s Quantic Club, where they opened for Akral Necrosis (Romania) and Impaled Nazarene (Finland) in February.

In March 2024, Ruyned won the National Thrash Metal Olympics in Craiova, a competition that brought together the best 11 thrash metal bands from Romania. Their victory earned them a slot on the Explosive Stage at EXIT Festival in Serbia, where they were the opening act for Coroner on July 12, 2024, in Novi Sad.

On March 22, 2024, the band released the single “Fleshripper” alongside a video. This release marked another milestone for Ruyned, showcasing their ability to deliver music that is as powerful as their live performances.

Accolades and More Releases

Drummer Mihai “Thrash” Marinescu received the Best Drummer award at Constelații Metal in Râmnicu Vâlcea in May 2024. Shortly after, the band released the single “Lobotomized” with special limited merch at the end of spring, followed by their third single “What Lies Beneath” in early summer.

“Eternal Torment” and Andrei Crișan’s Departure

Ruyned finalized the recording of their debut album “Eternal Torment“, which was launched on July 12, 2024, during the EXIT Festival in Novi Sad, Serbia. The album, which was created in a professional EU factory, delivers the same brain-bleeding sound that has become their signature.

In August 2024, however, the band faced a turning point as Andrei Crișan decided to retire from Ruyned due to personal reasons. Despite this, the band continued to perform, including a set at Posada Rock 2024 in late August.

Eternal TOURment and What’s Next for Ruyned

Ruyned embarked on their “Eternal TOURment” in October 2024, playing shows in various cities across Romania. The tour runs from October to December 2024, with stops in Sibiu, Arad, Zalău, Bucharest (as part of the Spears of Wallachia Festival), Timișoara, Cluj-Napoca, and Baia Mare.

Ruyned is currently working on their second album, with plans for big surprises in 2025. Fans can expect to hear some of these new songs during their 2024 tour.

The band shows no signs of slowing down as they continue their mission to deliver “pure fukking metal’ to audiences everywhere.
