The national finals for the international band contest, Wacken Metal Battle, will take place this Friday, November 25th in Oldies Pub, Sibiu. On Saturday, November 26th, we meet again in Oldies pub to enjoy another underground metal evening.
This year’s contest will bring together some great bands from the Romanian underground scene. On the 25th we’ll find out who will represent Romania at next year’s edition of the international Wacken Metal Battle, while on the 26th the party will go on with two killer bands, Katara and Eufobia.
As you might be aware, Wacken is the biggest metal open air festival from Europe: with a legacy spanning over 30 years, it is an annual massive gathering held on a field close to a small village in northern Germany called, you guessed it, Wacken. Every year, countries around the world battle it out to select only one independent underground band that goes on to the final battle at the mothership… I mean at Wacken.
About the competing bands
For this year’s edition, the finalists are: Blacksheep, Era Divina, Ktera, Machiavellian God and Serpent Stream.
On Friday, during the contest, the jury will consist of: Bogdan Ștefan Trîmbaciu, Posada Rock Festival organizer, Sven Kunert from Germany, Bibi Crisan from SuperSound (Cluj Radio), Alin Ştefănescu from Rockstadt club Braşov + the crowd present at the show.
Blacksheep is a death’roll band from Bucharest. Their music is about speaking your mind, being sincere, ironic, brave and humorous and keen on oldschool metal!
Era Divina is a symphonic metal band from Iasi. It started out as a highschool band, and in more recent years, alongside lineup changes, they present their theatrical, passionate approach on music.
Ktera is a progressive metal band, formed from the ashes of the former project Perseverance. Hailing from Brasov, they are currently working on new material, set to be released in 2023.
Serpent Stream is a nu-metal band from Iasi. Formed 6 years ago, along the years they have perfected their sound, adding their personal touch along with an industrial take of their original, nu-metal vibe.
Machiavellian God is a melodic death-metal band from Bucharest. Impressing the crowd with their energy on stage and with their musical prowess, they are also known for exploring the darker side of the human psyche in their lyrics.
The competing bands were selected by an international jury made up of: Anatoliy Kondyuk – Metal Scrap Records (Ukraine), Katrin Oswald – Spotify (Sweden), Michael Ahlin – Lost Domain (Sweden), Vladimirs Kravchenko (Wacken Metal Battle Latvia) and Emanuel Bernhard – Wacken Metal Battle (Romania).
In the past, we had bands such as Gothic, God, Dirty Shirt, Hteththemeth, E-an-na, An Theos represent Romania, and we came pretty close to the big prize with Dirty Shirt landing second prize in 2014, E-an-na landing the same second place in 2017 and An Theos third place in 2018.
Be sure to be there from the beginning, as the audience also gets to vote who will win tomorrow, but only if you are there before the first band starts playing!
