Katatonia: A Career in Constant Evolution

The story of Katatonia began in Stockholm, in 1991. Initially rooted in death and doom metal, the band gradually moved towards a more melodic and atmospheric direction, incorporating elements of gothic metal, alternative rock and progressive metal. Introspection, loss, love, grief and the less comfortable corners of human experience have remained recurring subjects throughout the discography.

With Jonas Renkse at the centre of the musical identity of the group, Katatonia released the debut full-length album, “Dance of December Souls”, in 1993. The follow-up, “Brave Murder Day”, arrived in 1996, followed by “Discouraged Ones” [1998], “Tonight’s Decision” [1999] and “Last Fair Deal Gone Down” [2001].

The catalogue continued with “Viva Emptiness” [2003], “The Great Cold Distance” [2006], “Night Is the New Day” [2009] and “Dead End Kings” [2012]. Later releases included “The Fall of Hearts” [2016], “City Burials” [2020] and “Sky Void of Stars” [2023]. The latest full-length album, “Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State”, arrived in 2025 through Napalm Records.

Bonnie Trash: Post-Punk from Canada

Bonnie Trash, the Canadian duo formed by twin sisters Emmalia and Sarafina Bortolon-Vettor, came into the picture to combine post-punk’s steely austerity with the brooding grandeur of goth rock. According to the group, stories passed down by Nonna Maria, their grandmother, provided the inspiration for the debut album, “Malocchio” [2022]. The follow-up, “Mourning You” [2025], turns towards a more immediate portrayal of grief and emotional turmoil.

Across their home country, the UK and the USA, the members of the band have shared stages with TRAITRS, Chastity, Dilly Dally, Bria Salmena and The OBGMs.
