We all know Octav Necrosis – and we know that speaking his name means speaking of black metal without compromise. Active in three projects at once [Akral Necrosis, Wormgod, Grohot], his passion burns steady while spontaneity feels right at home – something that proved true when he answered a last-minute call to perform with Wormgod at Quantic, Bucharest, Romania, on 4 October 2025, during QFest Day VI. It was the band’s second appearance there, and the first time performing a song from the second album.
And, fittingly, the occasion allowed me to conduct an interview, in which I explored several of his current projects.

Hi, Octav. Welcome once again into the pages of DinÎntunerec, and welcome back to Quantic. How did it feel returning to the stage tonight?
Octav Necrosis: Hello. It’s always great to come back to Quantic and play with Akral Necrosis or Wormgod, as it was tonight. With Wormgod, it was our second show here and the third one overall.
Getting a last-minute invitation to perform – how did you pull everything together in time?
Octav Necrosis: Nothing special about that, you know. We went to rehearsals last night and had a great time. We were actually preparing for another show on the 17 October at Encore, so we were already warmed up. Then we got the call just a few hours ago – I called the rest of the guys, they said, “Yeah, let’s play”, so we came over and did it. We’re always looking to play more shows – it’s the passion that speaks for us.
I could see that passion both in the setlist and in your performance on stage, as always. Which song was the most meaningful for you to perform tonight?
Octav Necrosis: That’s an easy answer. Tonight, for the first time, we played a song from the second album we’re working on. It was a very intense experience for me – and I think for the rest of the guys as well.
It was a premiere. It was the first time we’ve played anything from the second album, in fact. The record is almost ready; we’re still working on it in rehearsals and will be recording it quite soon. But you won’t have to wait a year to hear new music.
We’ve just been to the studio – we actually recorded this song as a new single. It’s coming out quite soon.

Great! Can you tell me more about this new song and the themes it explores?
Octav Necrosis: It’s quite simple. I did what I always do with Akral Necrosis as well – I listen to the music, I play a new song 20 or 30 times, and I let it dictate the subject.
This time, while playing, I saw this image of someone camping in the wilderness, in the snow. Conditions get so bad that it’s basically impossible for another living being to appear. Suddenly, in the distance, our character starts to see something approaching. It’s clear that it’s either a ghost or something already dead. That’s the topic.
Intriguing! With this insight, can you tell our readers what to expect from the new material as a whole?
Octav Necrosis: It builds on what you heard on the first album. There’s quite a lot of variation, but it’s definitely an evolution. I wouldn’t call it “more mature” – I hate that term, to be perfectly honest with you. It just explores more of what Wormgod is as a band, as an entity. I like it a lot and I’m really looking forward to releasing it.
What are you most proud of so far regarding the new album?
Octav Necrosis: That’s a tough question. I don’t know – I get extremely excited about any new piece of music. Next year is going to be huge for me, because I’ll be releasing the new Wormgod album with my bandmates, celebrating 20 years of Akral Necrosis with our fourth album, and finalising a new Grohot EP. We’ll probably do a Grohot release next year too.
So yeah – a lot of new music coming. Even one new song gets me extremely excited. It’s my main passion.
What’s been the most challenging song from the new Wormgod album so far – and why?
Octav Necrosis: I don’t know yet, to be honest. I’m still writing lyrics for a lot of the songs, so it’s not finished. The music and composition are done, but I’m lagging behind on lyrics, so I don’t have an answer yet.
What I can tell you, though, is that I finally managed to write lyrics for a song originally written for Akral Necrosis about 15 years ago. It was super challenging back in the day, and now I finally cracked that enigma.
Octav Necrosis: Yes. That’s the truth. I swear.
Fifteen years later, a chapter finally closed – and many others still unfolding. Speaking of which, you’re involved in several projects – Akral Necrosis, Wormgod, Grohot. How do you balance everything?
Octav Necrosis: For me, it’s not a problem. I try to vary things between the bands – even in the lyrics, the themes I approach, or the vocals. I have my arrangements, my tricks, and I try to make each one different.
But for me, it’s just an amazing ride. I’m extremely lucky to play with such a talented bunch of musicians. Vladimir, Andrei, Traian are amazing in Wormgod. Victor, Mishu, and Damian are absolutely great in Akral Necrosis. And Robert, as the main songwriter in Grohot, is shaping up to be a really good songwrinter.
Let’s talk about Grohot a bit – this project doesn’t seem to get the attention it deserves. Tell me more for our readers: what themes are you exploring with Grohot?
Octav Necrosis: Grohot is the wild ride. There’s this really cool EP from before I joined – the songs touched on various themes, some of them quite archaic.
When I joined, there was this big hype around vampiric black metal – and I fucking hated that. So I decided to do my own take. When I started working with Robert on the new EP, I said, “I want to do a concept again.”
It started with a vampire – and I killed the vampire in the second song. Just to prove a point. Fuck this trend. I had a lot of fun with it, and I’m finishing the story now. We’ll put out the full EP and the concept soon, with the Romanian Black Metal Elite.
I realised I kind of messed up a bit, because Grohot was meant to stay black metal with Romanian lyrics, and I’ll respect that going forward. I don’t think I’m a great lyricist in Romanian, so I called my good friend David, who also helped me with some great Romanian lyrics for “The Greater Absence”. I told him, “I need your help writing Grohot lyrics that are fucking amazing in Romanian.”
He wants to get involved – and he brought a killer concept. Once I finish this English EP, the first full-length will be a conceptual one, with David writing the lyrics. It won’t be the first time we’ve done Romanian lyrics – we did a short split with Faunul din Smidă, and those lyrics were written by Naomi, a friend of ours. But this time I’m doing it again, properly, with David. I’m really excited about that.
I’m excited too – I’ve listened to “Hrănind gurile înfometate”, and it definitely deserves more attention. I wish you good luck with this project, and I hope we will talk more about this one in the future. Until then, what can you tell me about your upcoming performance with Wormgod, on 17 October 2025? Any surprises? Bet there are!
Octav Necrosis: Yeah – we’ll have our first official T-shirts there, and they are fucking amazing. We’ve worked with a really great artist from abroad. You’ll love it – and you’ll buy it for sure.
Otherwise, we’re ready to deliver an intense show – even more intense than tonight, since that venue is smaller. It’ll be like a face-off – you’ll be right there, close enough to smell our sweat, so to speak. Call it good.
If it will be intense, I am sure people will come. Regarding the masses, any final message for your followers – for all the bands you’re part of?
Octav Necrosis: Nothing particular, just thanks for being with us through the years with Akral Necrosis. I hope you’ll jump on board with Grohot and especially Wormgod as well. We’re going to release a shitload of new music next year – it’s going to be a big year for me, and I hope you’ll enjoy it.
Thank you for your support. Thank you very much.
