On 11 September 2024, Quantic Pub became the epicenter of extreme metal as Belphegor and Malevolent Creation returned to Romania for a night that will be etched in the memory of everyone who attended. With Confess as special guests, the lineup promised an intense experience, and it delivered—ferocious riffs, crushing drums, and relentless headbanging kept the energy high from start to finish.

Confess Kicked Off the Night with a Bang

The night kicked off with Confess, a band that I was genuinely excited to see on the lineup. Hailing from Iran, but now based in Norway, their presence alone brought an edge to the evening. They brought a solid groove that perfectly set the stage for what was to come.

With songs like “Megalodon” and “Phoenix Rises“, Confess sent the crowd into a frenzy. This is a band that knows its audience inside and out, a bond forged through their previous blistering performances at Rockstadt Extreme Fest, where they also delivered a hell of a set. The setlist felt meticulously crafted, with each song chosen specifically for the crowd in front of them. Every riff and drumbeat hit with intensity, and the audience fed off their energy, growing wilder with each moment.

Malevolent Creation’s Relentless Assault

Next up were Malevolent Creation from the United States delivering a pummeling set that kept the energy surging. The setlist was a relentless barrage of brutality, with fan favorites and deep cuts alike. Tracks like “Multiple Stab Wounds” and “Premature Burial” were met with thunderous applause, their relentless pace igniting a powerful energy in the crowd. The intensity ramped up even further with “Infernal Desire” and “Homicidal Rant“, showcasing their signature blend of ferocious riffing and pounding rhythms.

As they closed with “Blood Brothers” it felt like the entire room was united in one last act of defiance, a perfect end to their crushing performance.

Belphegor’s Masterful Finale

Belphegor, from Austria, capped off the night, and I was thrilled to see them live once more. Despite the atmospheric leanings of their sound, they still had me headbanging. While the sound wasn’t as sharp as during Malevolent Creation’s set, the band’s diverse rhythms and relentless energy more than made up for it. Their setlist was a showcase of black metal mastery, featuring tracks like “Baphomet“, “The Devil’s Son” and “Hell’s Ambassador“. The pacing of their performance was expertly balanced; from the blistering speed of “The Devil’s Son” to the relentless intensity of “Lucifer Incestus“, the set was a well-oiled machine. Belphegor presented an array of black metal beauties with precision and power.

Helmuth led the charge with a commanding presence, orchestrating a show that was both clinically aggressive and hypnotically immersive. Of course, “The Devil’s Son” was a monumental highlight—its immense structure and aggressive delivery captured the audience in its dark embrace.

As the night closed with a track from their latest opus, “Totentanz – Dance Macabre“, it was clear that the evening was a true celebration of the black arts. Belphegor proved themselves as masters of their dark realm, delivering a performance that vividly depicted their underworld dominance—like Cerberus straining eagerly at the leash.
