Track-by-Track Breakdown

When it comes to discovering new music, sometimes curiosity is the strongest driving force. That’s exactly what led me to Under the Shadows and their debut EP. As I promised myself to further diversify my tastes, this group seemed to be exactly what I needed.

The EP kicks off with “Black Butterfly“, a track that immediately grabs attention with its dynamic bassline and explosive energy. The song combines various metal influences, seamlessly blending classical guitar elements with a powerful, engaging rhythm. The result is a song that defies easy categorization while providing a rich, immersive listening experience.

Following up is “7(Sweet) Sins“, which shares some stylistic similarities with the opening track but brings its own unique flair. The song features an infectious blend of aggressive guitar riffs and intricate bass work from Elias Negrin. The dynamic range and inventive structure of this track are reminiscent of Serj Tankian‘s work, adding a layer of drama and complexity to the EP.

Continuing the tone, “The Emperor and the Nightingale” steps in to dispel any lingering doubts about the band’s range, proving they have much more to offer. “The Emperor and the Nightingale”, now that is an intriguing title. When I heard it, I was struck by its dynamic shifts and genre-blending creativity.  This is your very rollercoaster of sound: aggressive riffs with thoughtful, evocative lyrics. It feels like a story unfolding, drawing you into its narrative with every twist and turn.

The EP closes with “Blue Dragon“, a track that starts with a menacing tone before evolving into a dramatic and adventurous piece. The song is, indeed, here to create a captivating and varied listening experience.
