Deimhal, the rising force in symphonic black metal from Finland, unleashed their latest EP, The Diabolical Liberation, on August 23rd. Blending dark atmospheres with symphonic grandeur, Deimhal’s sound captivates fans of bands like Dimmu Borgir, Anorexia Nervosa, and Carach Angren.
Founded by vocalist Mika “Deimhal” Tönning in 2021, Deimhal began as a solo project… Indeed, one fueled by Tönning’s desire to bring his musical visions to life. Drawing inspiration from black metal titans such as Satyricon, Immortal, Dimmu Borgir, and Arcturus, Tönning quickly realized the potential of his ideas. What began as a solo endeavor soon evolved into a full-fledged band. With accomplished musicians joining the ranks by the end of 2021.
The current lineup includes Timo Lehtinen (bass – Kalmah), Janne Kusmin (drums – Kalmah), Gábor Dancs (guitar – Resolution 13), and Henri Isojärvi (synths). Jukka Hallikainen (ex-Enthring) recently joined as a guitarist, completing the ensemble after the departure of former guitarist Toni Buckman.
Deimhal’s journey into the darkened realms of symphonic black metal has been marked by the release of their debut EP The Grand Gathering in May 2023, which showcased their evolving sound and garnered attention from the metal community. Now, with The Diabolical Liberation, Deimhal continues to push the boundaries of their genre, delivering an EP that promises to be both epic and unrelenting. As covered in a previous article, the Finnish band released the single Malice last December.
As the band looks to the future, they remain open to collaborations with record labels for upcoming releases, further cementing their place in the global metal scene.
