Soen, the band that dominates the new wave of European progressive metal, is returning to Romania! This year, at fans’ requests they will perform in Bucharest, at Quantic on October 24th!

Soen supergroup was formed in Stockholm in the mid-2000s by former Opeth drummer Martin Lopez and vocalist Joel Ekelöf (Willowtree). And they definitely took the prog metal community by surprise in 2012 with the release of their first album, Cognitive.  The debut album was recorded with bassist Steve Di Giorgio (Testament, Sadus) and guitarist Kim Platbarzdis. In the following decade, the band expanded their discography with Tellurian (2014), Lykaia (2017), Lotus (2019) and Imperial (2021). Later, in 2022 they released the masterpiece Atlantis. However, their style evolved steadily towards a sound of its own, where the Tool influences from the debut gradually gave way to a unique mix of heavy guitars, melodious vocals, intricate rhythms and atmospheric keyboards.

Although the lineup is international, it crystallized in Sweden. Obviously, around Martin Lopez (drums), Joel Ekelöf (vocals) and Lars Enok Åhlund (guitar and keyboards). Furthermore, the Canadian Cody Lee Ford (guitar) joined the band in 2018. Finally, in 2020 Ukrainian Oleksii “Zlatoyar” Kobel (bass) joined them also.

Last year, on the very day the band performed in Romania at Posada Rock, Soen released a new album, Memorial. It topped all the charts and the prestigious Metal Hammer magazine declared it “album of the year”. The European promotional tour was a huge success, with many sold out concerts. In March 2024, Soen will embark on the second part of the Memorial tour, with over 50 shows in Europe, South America and North America.

Soen has a long and special relationship with Romanian fans. It all started in 2017 when they performed for the first time at Posada Rock. The performance was a huge success, hence, the band returned in 2019 and 2023, much to the fans’ delight.

This year, on October 24th, the band will take the stage in Quantic, where they will perform songs from Memorial for the first time in Romania. Obviously, along with the hits that brought the supergroup to the top of the world’s progressive metal.

Rock Culture Association, the promoter of Posada Rock Festival is the organizer of this event.
