New bands announcements for Rockstadt Extreme Fest 2023

The line-up is almost complete: read on about the latest confirmations for Romania's biggest metal festival

DISCHARGE

One of the most important names in the history of heavy music, the band is known for influencing several sub-genres of extreme music and their songs have been covered by some of the biggest names in heavy metal and other genres.
Discharge paved the way for various extreme metal styles such as thrash metal, black metal, crust punk and grindcore. The band’s “brutal, extremist approach” and “extreme thrash noise” style of playing eventually led to the thrash genre and was a major influence on at least two generations of metal.
Thrash metal groups like Metallica and Slayer were inspired by their speed and brutality. Anthrax was already playing Discharge cover songs by 1983.
Discharge have remained a constant through the years and it was the 2000s that saw the band introduced to a new generation of fans, mainly due to the reunion of the classic lineup and the new partnership with Nuclear Blast Records, responsable for the release of the highly acclaimed album, “End of Days”.

PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS

Formed in the aftermath of MOTÖRHEAD’s dissolution, following the death of Lemmy Kilmister in 2016, PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS were always going to draw a crowd at any discerning rock or metal festival. Led by one of the genre’s most respected guitarists and completed by his sons Todd (guitar), Tyla (bass) and Dane (drums) and powerhouse frontman Neil Starr, the band emerged onto the 2017 touring circuit powered by a huge amount of good will, a smattering of MOTÖRHEAD covers and a handful of new songs that crackled with passion and swagger. Landing themselves a prestigious support slot on GUNS N’ ROSES 2017 summer stadium run, the BASTARD SONS hit the ground running.
Whether it was the promise of hearing a few old Lemmy gems or simply that PHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONS were too good to ignore, the response to those early shows was uniformly ecstatic and extremely rowdy. By the time the BASTARD SONS released their debut album, “The Age Of Absurdity”, in January 2018, this honest rock ‘n’ roll enterprise had organically blossomed into a pretty big deal. The album garnered widespread great reviews, picking up a trophy for ‘Best Debut Album’ at Metal Hammer Germany’s 2018 awards.
So get ready for a full on, 100% MOTÖRHEAD classic set, only at Rockstadt Extreme Fest!

KADAVAR

Steeped in the bluesy, brooding, bottom-heavy traditions of bands like Black Sabbath, Hawkwind, and Led Zeppelin, German psych-rock trio Kadavar unapologetically spin ’70s-era hard rock tropes into contemporary stoner metal gold. Known for explosive live shows, the band play hundreds of dates a year, and have done so since issuing their 2010 self-titled debut. That hard work paid off as each album sold better than its predecessor. Their third album, 2017’s “Rough Times”, entered the German album charts at 18.
2019’s “For the Dead Travel Fast” registered inside the U.S. metal Top 20 by celebrating all things fuzzy, trippy, and creepy. 2020 saw the band move to Berlin’s Robotor Records and release the uncharacteristically moody “The Isolation Tapes” during the pandemic. At the end of 2021, Kadavar teamed with American ex-pats Elder to release the conceptual, six song, prog-psych tome “Eldovar: A Story of Darkness & Light”.
Their style has been categorized to have a “riffed psych rock and doom-like sound” with influences from Black Sabbath, The Doors, Hawkwind and Led Zeppelin.

The Underground Youth

Originally hailing from Manchester, England, The Underground Youth make moody, often raw, ’80s-style post-punk infused with a darkly psychedelic vibe, heavily influenced by names such as The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Velvet Underground, Bob Dylan or The Jesus & Mary Chain. Formed in 2008, The Underground Youth was initially the solo project of singer, guitarist, and songwriter Craig Dyer.
Since the live band was assembled in 2012, they have been constantly touring Europe and the rest of the world, consistently selling out shows and receiving widespread praise for their festival performances. Building on their cult following wherever they travel.
With a distinct sound that has continuously developed over the years, they have crossed from their unique brand of darkly cinematic psychedelia to a raw and blisteringly style of post-punk. Focusing on contrasting beautiful melodies and dark poetic lyrics, the subconscious of this new album is penetrated by the raw energy and noise of the band’s current live shows.
