New bands for Dark Bombastic Evening 10

The meeting of DBE is formed mainly through the wholehearted engagement of a fragile community, by people coming from all over Europe and not only. It could be said that they are the “die-hard fans”. Some come from the very beginning, others have joined in later, perhaps even for the first time, but we deeply feel their warmth and longing for a new event. Here, the alignment of the stars is called “by default”.

The event will take place between 19-22 August 2020 in the ancient citadel of Alba-Iulia. Ticket price is 389 lei. On March 15, 2020, daily tickets (20-21-22 August) will be offered for the price of 181 lei. The evening of August 19 (opening ceremony) will be with free admission.

Until now, for the event are confirmed the bands: Ved Buens Ende, A Swarm of the Sun, Saor, Oranssi Pazuzu, There’s a Light, GOLD, Throane and Igorrr.

The newest confirmations are:

Igorrr–Gautier Serre (born June 5, 1984), better known by his stage name Igorrr, is a French musician. Under the Igorrr alias, he combines a variety of disparate genres, including black metal, baroque music, breakcore, and trip-hop, into a singular sound. Serre is also part of the groups Whourkr and Corpo-Mente. In 2017, the Igorrr project itself became a full band with the addition of vocalists Laurent Lunoir and Laure Le Prunenec and drummer Sylvain Bouvier.

Serre plays piano, drums, guitar. He named his band after a pet gerbil Igorr he had as a child, adding the extra “r” to “make pronunciation more difficult.” Serre claims to have synesthesia, an ability to perceive music as colours. In 2011 interview, he spoke of the origin of his solo project:

“It was around 2004–2005 when I had several groups. Whenever I had an idea or a composition, I had to consult with other people to know if it was good, not good, etc… and it annoyed me a bit. I wanted to have something for myself where I would be the only person to make that kind of decision. I was looking for a specific style of music, but I could not find what I wanted because it did not exist. The goal was that I wanted to have a CD, put it in the player and hear exactly what I wanted to hear”

 BONG invite listeners known and new to permit themselves to their unfurling, mesmeric drone. The band’s transformative, otherworldly and majestic hues captivate all who witness, rendering the trio quite a following. Transform and transcend with BONG’s glistening darkness. For a brief period in each composition, Dave Terry (bass, vocals) does actually open his mouth, the result coming somewhere between chanting and narration.  These segments are quotes of H.P. Lovecraft material from the texts after which the songs are named. The material deals with cities and civilizations of impossible antiquity; delivered in a quaking, preternatural monotone, clearly designed to be the voice of something as ancient as the civilizations themselves. He sounds otherworldly and ancient, as he’s supposed to, but there’s no escaping the fact that the vocals are a drone in addition to the guitar playing. Of course, I pay attention when that monotonous/monolithic voice rears up, though this kind of drone is steady and flat and repetitive, pushing the listener deeper down into their swivel chair and embedding them firmly in another universe while the sound unfolds all around.

ABYSSIC is a unique symbiosis of atmospheric approaches in funeral death/doom, with black and prog influences. The signature is enhanced by orchestrations with Mellotron, Minimoog and Upright Bass.

ABYSSIC is a result of a collaboration between Memnock (Susperia, Antiqva), Elvorn (Susperia) and André Aaslie (Funeral, Images At Twilight, Gromth, Omnia Moritur & Profane Burial) and together with Asgeir Mickelson (Ex-Borknagar, Ihsahn) they recorded the debut album ‘A Winter’s Tale’ in February 2016 (Osmose Productions).

Later 2016 Tjodalv (Susperia, Ex-Dimmu Borgir, Old Man`s Child) and Makhashanah (Henriette Bordvik) (Asagraum (Live), Ex-Sirenia) joined ABYSSIC, and together with Memnock, Elvorn and Aaslie they bring you the ABYSSIC darkness.

“This atmospheric album really nails the best parts of the Death/Doom style for me, and the overwrought symphonic elements are just candy to my ears, pulling the whole thing up to another level.
