The Italian masters of the orchestral death metal return to Romania on October 24, 2020, in the Quantic club together with Ex Deo. The concert is part of the “Veleno Across Europe 2020” tour, promoting the band’s latest record.
Lately, it seems that Fleshgod Apocalypse has made a habit of coming to Romania every 2 years; last time at Rockstadt Extreme Fest 2018, before that at the Metalhead Meeting Warm Up Party 2016 with Ensiferum, and in 2014 again at Rockstadt Extreme Fest.
In 2020, Fleshgod Apocalypse returns to Romania to promote its latest record, “Veleno”, released on May 24, 2019, via Nuclear Blast. After three years since the last album, “King” (2016), Fleshgod Apocalypse brings to the public a poisonous album – hence the name “Veleno”, which in Italian means “venom”. Mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, The Black Dahlia Murder, Epica), the entire production of the album lasted three months. The “metal” part of the pieces was recorded at Bloom Recording Studio and Kick Studio in Rome, and the orchestra part in Perugia at Musica Teclas Studio.
“Veleno is the most spontaneous album I ever made,” says multi-instrumentalist Francesco Paoli. “We have always been very honest with our music, but sincerity does not mean that you are completely spontaneous. For example, I never recorded a note without being 100% sure of it. But to let your inspiration flow freely without any way program restriction or lineup, it’s quite a different thing, meaning I experimented with some tracks in the past, but sometimes it feels like you need to censor yourself in some way. Some days you come up with a super idea, but, for some reason, you think it’s “too much” for your music, and you throw everything away, so the lack of boundaries, experimentation, an inevitable process to rediscover our roots … all of these brought us to the most beautiful music we have I’ve ever produced it. ”
Ex Deo is a symphonic death metal project initiated by Kataklysm vocalist Maurizio Iacono in 2008 as an “artistic project” that he was particularly interested in because of his Italian origins, even though he was born and raised in Canada. Ex Deo was not founded to be as active as Kataklysm is, Iacono arguing that “it is more of a prestigious band”: “We will not have long tours for Ex Deo, we will not do as much as we do for Kataklysm. Kataklysm is a kind of warrior band of the world, you know, he’s always on the road and familiar with social issues. Ex Deo is a little more artistic. ”
Ex Deo has three studio albums so far: “Romulus” (2009), “Caligvla” (2012) and “The Immortal Wars” (2017), all of which deal with topics about the Roman Empire.
