After a short break I decided to come back just in time to see one of the best bands from the Sludge/doom genre: Dopethrone. Tuesday night in Quantic was an unforgettable one. Three bands, one night and a lot of headbanging.
The first band on stage was Tragic from Bucharest. For those who are not familiar with them you can listen to some of their stuff here . Their style is a mix between alternative, psychedelic, doom & post-metal and I have to say that I’ve really enjoyed the instrumental part, which was very nicely done, creating an atmosphere to dream on. All good in the hood, but I have to admit that the vocal part was not my favorite though. It was the 2nd time seeing the guys perform but my opinion remains unchanged. If you want to support them, go check them out live again on their album release this month on Friday, November 22nd.
Roadkillsoda -I guess this band needs no further presentation since everybody (or almost) knows them or saw them live at least once. After couple of changes in the band regarding the vocals I think Roadkillsoda sounds better. Catchy lyrics and sound manage every time to make people jump and enjoy the show. With few hesitations on the vocals the show was pretty nice. I think this band has a lot of potential so kudos for such a sound which is not really common for our country.
Dopethrone – arriving to my favorite time of the evening. Dopethrone is one of those bands that I’ve been listening to for a long time now, but never had the chance to see live until tonight. With a name taken from the Electric Wizard classic, you can guess what kind of stoner/doom/sludge sound is going to please your eardrums. For the first time in Bucharest, this band managed to gather a lot of people in the crowd for a Tuesday evening.
Their sound is that of the genre, very fuzzy, downtuned with a strong heavy drive. As referring to the voice because Dopethrone has 2 vocals – we won’t forget about Vincent which is one of a kind and throws his back into it with a voice which sounds like something lurking in the shadows. Needless to say that his voice fits the band like a jigsaw piece. Dopethrone creates imposing music and not to mention, fucking addictive. If you’re into badass female fronted bands, Dopethrone should be your favorite pick!
Until next time !
