Underground but with a vast discography Raven Throne is atmosperic heathen black metal band rising from Belarus.War Head vocalist of Raven Throne accepted to answer some question about the band evolution, new album, inspirational bands and many more.
You released a new album some months ago in May.How would you describe your new album to someone who didn’t listen to it yet and also how does it differ from the albums you have released in the past?
The new album is more melancholic, melodic and slow. On the other hand, it is versatile. Despair is replaced by estrangement, and rage is replaced by a more philosophical understanding of the world. Each of our albums differs from the previous ones. We are progressing as musicians
What can you tell me about the lyrics on your new album? What are they about and also does they have a special meaning for you?
The new album is conceptual. We used poems of Belarusian poets whose tragic destinies were closely intertwined with the realities of the Soviet era. The basis of poetry is the themes of the Motherland, nature, the comprehension of the national tragedy… This is part of our history, it is important for us …
What bands inspired Raven Throne and also which vocalist inspired your vocals which are quiet unique?
In the early years we were inspired by such bands as Immortal, Burzum, Mayhem, Gorgoroth, Darkthrone … Personally, I respect and love Ukrainian black metal … As for the vocals, very impressive are Attila and Abbath… Nevertheless, we have always tried to achieve a unique recognizable sound
On the earlier albums you used pagan topics as your lyrical influence.Do you consider yourself a pagan and still follow the old Belarusian heathen traditions?
I studied the pagan traditions of Belarus at the university, which is why I am interested in this subject and I can discuss it in it
Belarusian traditions and the spirit of Belarusian nature are inextricably linked with pre-Christian culture … We see its evolution in the context of modern society
Are you planning any international tours with the new album “I miortvym snicca zolak”?
Yes, we plan to give some concerts outside of Belarus. We will perform in Germany in March 2019 at the festival The Dark Paths, if I’m not mistaken. There will be other events already this year
Beside music what are some of your interests?
Photography, literature, travel, meeting with friends. How to wield, no occult
What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
I listen to a lot of music. Metal music on this list is very small. It can be Pink Floyd, then The Cure, then classical heavy metal, electronic music, folk. I do not limit myself to genres and styles.
Any final words for your fans?
Thanks to all. See you at concerts. Follow the Raven!
