Anathema returns to Bucharest within the second event of the ARTmania Bucharest Blast series. Alcest (France), the pioneers of blackgaze music, will also step on stage. The show will take place on October 24, 2017, starting 19:00, at Arenele Romane, Bucharest.
The Anathema gig is part of the European promotion tour of the latest album, “The Optimist“, which was released on June 9, 2017 under the label Kscope Records. The new album was recorded last winter and it is described by the band as the album that will unveil some of the darkest, most challenging and surprising tracks composed by Anathema so far. The beauty, the intensity, the drama, the silence, the hope, the references to an extra-musical dimension, all elements that represented the leitmotifs of the artistic journey made by the band over time, gain a new perspective.
All the recorded material is, as Daniel Cavanagh confesses, “a journey.” The first song from the new album, Springfield, can be seen on the following link:
Founded in 2000, Alcest is considered to be the founder of a new musical genre, named “blackgaze,” which combines elements of black metal and shoegaze into a genuinely unique sound. Their artistic journey began with the album “Le Secret” (2005), continued with “Shelter” (2014) and culminated with the latest release, “Kodama” (2016), a double-meaning word in Japanese: both “echo” and “tree of life”.
