Having reached its 3rd edition, Prophecy Fest takes place in a natural cave from Old Stone Age – Balver Höhle, which guarantees an unforgettable experience for artists and fans alike. According to Germanic Saga, the blacksmith Wieland had his workshop in the cave. Balve, Germany, is situated between Dortmund, Cologne, Frankfurt and Hannover. This year, Prophecy Fest will take place on July 28 and 29.
Here is the line-up for this year’s edition:
Arcturus – Unparalleled in creativity, musicianship and artistic approach since their foundation days, mastermind Steinar “Sverd” Johnsen and his cosmic crew consisting of past and present members of bands like Ulver, Mayhem, Dimmu Borgir, Borknagar and Ved Buens Ende have been dancing their very own tightrope between genius and madness ever since. With each of their releases being an interstellar journey of its own, and always ahead of their time, Arcturus can justifiably be labelled as the epitome of avant-garde metal.
Sólstafir – Music will always be inspired by the environment in which it is created. With its incredible array of highly diverse landscapes ranging from white glaciers via volcanic bizarreness, moss-green bubble-fields, deep fjords, and frost-cracked mountains to black beaches, Iceland has shaped a host of astonishingly original and fiercely individual bands such as Sigur Ros, Bjork, and Sólstafir. Sólstafir embody the ever-turning wheel of seasons with their shifting light, darkness, and colours, extreme Northern climate, the stark contrasts, the closeness of beauty and deadly forces of nature, the impressive sceneries that have the bones of ancient gods enshrined in them like hardly any other band in every aspect of their existence.
Hypnopazūzu – Hypnopazūzu is the duo of none other than Youth (Killing Joke) and David Tibet (Current 93). It is their first concert in Germany.
The Vision Bleak – special performance with a classical ensemble of strings, percussion and vocals.
Dornenreich – exclusive acoustic history set.
Dool – exclusive set with additional musicians and singers.
Hexvessel – extended performance with implemented acoustic set.
Spiritual Front – special “Armageddon Gigolo” set for Prophecy Fest 2017!
Sun Of The Sleepless – Schwadorf’s (Empyrium/The Vision Bleak) first concert since 1999, second ever.
The Moon And The Nightspirit – special show with enhanced line-up.
Lotus Thief – European premiere.
Soror Dolorosa – performing “Severance” in its entirety for the first time & presenting their the new album “Apollo”.
GlerAkur – the band surprised us and blew us away with their performance at Prophecy Fest 2016. It was an easy decision for us to invite them again.
NOÊTA – their first concert outside Scandinavia at this year’s Prophecy Fest!
Nhor – world premiere performance at this year’s Prophecy Fest!
After the amazing work Austrian graphic designer Irrwisch did made for Lotus Thief’s “Gramarye”, he was chosen as art director at Prophecy Fest 2017.
