Interview with Kall

Swedish DSBM

Hails and thank you for accepting this interview. How are things going over there?

Excellent. The Swedish summer is in full bloom which means more rain and therefore more studio time…

Can you tell us a little bit about the band’s history and how it was created?
We came together after the unfortunate end of Lifelover, partly because we were friends but mostly because we had unfinished business in the music world. Soon, a couple more outstanding musicians, and persons for that matter, joined our ranks. We recorded and released our first album last year and the rest is unfolding as we speak.

Why did you choose the name “Kall”(cold) and what “Kall” represents for the band?

The name, which is in Swedish, has in fact two meanings. One is “cold” like you say which in a sense represents the music but mostly our collective inheritance, spiritually as well as geographically. The primary meaning for Kall is however “a calling”. It is our purpose and the meaning of all we do. It is not so much a job or a hobby as it is something we feel the need to do. We could not live without this expression and all that it gives to us and what we in turn can give to others.

Who is responsable for the band’s lyrics/artwork?

Different. Most of it is made by the members of the band but we do get help from various artists and friends of ours from time to time.

The most recent material is the spilt with Canopy,Harasai and Obitus, can you tell us a little bit how did this split came to life?

We have a history with all these bands. Canopy and Obitus have been in this industry for a while and deserves a lot more recognition than they get at the moment. We had been talking about doing shows together in the past but then the idea of a split came along so we did it and I think it turned out pretty cool. The artwork alone makes the purchase worthwhile!

After one single and a full lenght album, what plans you have in the near future?

We’re preparing to go into the studio once again to record our second full-length album, this time on the newly started label Catatonic State which also just recently released a great album in Gloson’s “Yearwalker”. We have most of the material done and I’m telling you, this time you’re in for an intense trip. Other than that, we’re looking to do more shows and spread the word!

Which artists/bands inspired the music of Kall is there are any?

A lot. The answer differs majorly from member to member and honestly, there are too many to name. However, life in itself is a daily inspiration with all that comes with it.

How would you describe Sweden’s DSBM scene? And which are your impressions on the DSBM scene in general?

Not sure how to answer that considering I don’t listen to any bands that are part of it, as far as I know. Most bands however, like in most scenes, are copycats and never strive to make something unique which bores me tremendously.

Any message for your fans?

Keep supporting and spreading the word of our coming. We appreciate it and look forward to meeting you on the road!

Thank you for this interview! Stay Negative!

Cheers.
